South Africa – Delay in implementation of anticipated increase in official fees for patents and designs

The Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC) earlier this year indicated that official fees for South African patents and designs would be increased, and that different filing and renewal fees would apply to small and large entities.

We anticipated that the official fee increase would have been effective from 1 July 2019. We have now been advised that the increase is unlikely to be implemented by that date for various reasons.

We will keep you apprised of developments in this regard. Should you have any specific questions please contact P.Renewals@spoor.com.
